Why Do Languages Merge?
Languages merge when a group of people who speak two or more different languages (in this case Mandarin/Cantonese and English) want to find an easy way to communicate with each other. This is due to people not being able to speak one language fluently (in this case English). Therefore, when they are required to use that language, people might consciously or subconsciously mix two languages together. This trend goes on, then suddenly, as if like a new style of talking, a new merged language appears and people start to deliberately use it.
Another reason that languages merge is convenience. Sometimes it is just easier to type out words from one language than the other. Therefore, languages might come together while texting due to laziness.
