Our Opinion About Chinglish:
Kristen:
I think that Chinglish is quite convenient because sometimes you just feel very lazy and texting in proper English/Chinese can sometimes be very tiring, so that is the only time when Chinglish is really useful to me. I also think that it can be really irritating because sometimes when I don't quite understand what people write in Chinglish. It would take me a really long time before I can understand what it really means.

I think that Chinglish is a sort of language that is very convenient when chatting with friends that know both English and Chinese because it’s the mixed version of the two languages. When you can't express yourself clearly using only one language, sometimes Chinglish will help. It can express your feelings more clearly if you cannot fully express your feelings with only English or Chinese.
I think that children shouldn’t learn or speak Chinglish as much when they’re in primary school, they should build up on their fundamental knowledge of both languages before merging the language together. That way, they won’t be able to speak Chinese or English well, because they will mix up grammar easily and they won’t be able to speak either language properly.
I think that Chinglish is a good language if you don’t use it very frequently. If you use it too much, you’ll lose the ability to speak Chinese/English properly. If you just speak it sometimes, it will be a useful language to express your feelings more clearly.

Personally, I think that Chinglish is useful in our everyday lives. It is a great way for texting as it doesn't require as much time and effort to type out a text. It is also really funny when I read other people's texts/messages as I have to try and sound out the words. It's very convenient since I want to use Chinese and English to express my thoughts and feelings occasionally. I think the reason why people in Hong Kong use Chinglish is most people can't speak English very fluently. Since Cantonese is their mother tongue, they will automatically find that it is easier to communicate in Chinese.
I think that Chinglish cannot be avoided, but should not be encouraged. Since Chinglish is not a real, fundamental language, the consequences of it are very bad. Nowadays, Hong Kong students are using Chinglish in their schoolwork as well. As this is not proper English, this may affect them very severely in the future as they may not able to correct their bad habits and continue using this kind of English for their lives.
I think the root way of solving this problem is by teaching good and proper English to Hong Kong's future generation and teaching them to use Chinglish in the correct way at the correct time. That way, there is hope that we can properly stamp out Chinglish use in schools and can finally use proper English. But nonetheless, I think Chinglish is convenient, funny and I will definitely will not stop using it while texting.

I think that Chinglish is really easy to use while texting people on the Internet. However, I think that it shouldn't be used at school because it is not good English. I think its really convenient when you are chatting with friends because you can express your feelings using Chinese phrases, but you are typing them in English.
